What I learned above a ledge on the Powell River

By Wesley Houp

If I slide one foot
into any shoal,
the entire river
responds.
The alternative
is localized catastrophe.

A whisper spreads
from a diatom
to a caddis larva
to Leptoxis and a Lampsilid.
And quietly a darter repositions
several small stones
to offset the added volume.
