The deadline for the Lexington Film League’s 2nd Do-ers Video Contest is approaching! We are accepting submissions until February 1, 2011 and–yes!–cash prizes will be awarded.
Our goal: we want filmmakers to connect with their communities. As a completely volunteer run organization, the Lexington Film League feels that it’s important for people to give back. What better way to do that then to tell the story of people and organizations who make a difference?
Our first Do-ers Video Contest brought in over 20 video submissions covering a variety of topics and featuring a wide range of styles. We were impressed with the subject matter and the amount of organizations and people who were brought to our attention as important assets to our community.
We hope to achieve the same inspiration this year and encourage those who submitted before to submit again. We also look forward to seeing a whole new crop of filmmakers enter the contest!
LexArts graciously has provided yet another LFL contest with its cash awards. We could not be more thankful for their support and for the new Creative Ventures Fund for artists. There will be a $400 cash prize awarded for Best Overall, a $300 cash prize awarded for People’s Choice, and a $100 cash prize awarded for Best Student Video.
This year’s Best Of Do-ers Screening and Awards Ceremony will be held on March 8th, 2011 at Natasha’s Bistro and Bar in downtown Lexington. We have attached a $3.00 submission fee with each video, but the event itself will be free. Unlike last year, the decision to split the cash winnings with the prize winner’s organization of choice will be left in the hands of the filmmaker.
