KET offers opportunity for Kentucky filmmakers

Want to see your short film on television? KET is giving you the chance to do so.

The statewide public television network is seeking submissions for the 2011 season of Reel Visions, a program dedicated to showcasing the work of Kentucky filmmakers. The series aired its first episode during the summer of 2009 and has since broadcast three seasons of the half hour show. The content of featured shorts has ranged from meditations on love filmed at fast food drive-thrus to a “Twilight Zone” inspired tribute to the sci fi genre. But all of the films are unified by a common thread: they are made by folks who have lived and worked right here within our state. Continue reading »

KET to feature local short films

On August 1, KET’s Reel Visions: A Spotlight on Kentucky Filmmakers—a new series that showcases the talents of film artists from Kentucky—enters its third season. Each Reel Visions program presents a half-hour collection of some of the best short-films from filmmakers native to or living and working in Kentucky, featuring everything from experimental art films and animations to quirky short stories and off-the-beaten path documentaries.

Filmmakers have the opportunity to have their work viewed across the state—a level of exposure that may have previously been unattainable—while viewers unaccustomed to the world of independent filmmaking get a glimpse into some of the best offerings of film fare in the Commonwealth. When the Lexington Film League (LFL) sent out a call for music videos, little could anyone have imagined that the results would be so tremendous or so musically diverse. Once again, the Kentucky filmmaking community has proven its strength and its talent, and the LFL would like to invite both music and film lovers to come and view the results!

On Saturday, May 29, the Lexington Film League will present a selection of the competing videos and will follow the screening with an evening of live music featuring Lucky Pineapple, Englishman, Fanged Robot, and Idiot Glee. The event will be held at Buster’s Billiards and Backroom, and prizes will be awarded to the winning videos. Continue reading »
